Solar Festivals

We are flexible about the manner in which we celebrate the feast days. We are ever growing, changing, evolving, and our interpretation of the Feast Days is also ever growing, changing, evolving. We may not always celebrate these days the way other groups do.

SAMHAIN

Samhain occurrs when the Sun reaches fifteen degrees of Scorpio. We honor the place that Death has in the cycle of life. The veil between the world of life and the spirit world is the thinnest at this time. We honor those that have come and gone before us. This is the ending of the Celtic year and the beginning of the time outside of time.

YULE

The Winter Solstice brings Yule. The Sun King is reborn. The Maiden, Mother and Crone give life to him. Love is triumphant. He brings light back into the world. The Sun begins his return into our lives and into our hearts. The Holly King is displaced by the Oak King. This is the beginning of the dark time.

IMBOLAC

Fifteen degrees of Aquarius brings Imbolac. We welcome the return of light and warmth and life. Rain comes and Mother Earth gives birth to new growth. We light candles to honor Brigid who brings the blessings into our lives. Time has returned to its normal flow.

OSTARA

At the Vernal Equinox, we celebrate Ostara. We bring new life, new ideas and new growth into our lives. We plant the seeds of new beginnings in our lives. Day time and Night time are equal. It is a time of balance.

BELTANE

When the sun reaches fifteen degrees of Taurus, we celebrate Beltane. We celebrate that which we have brought into our lives. The Sun is warm and the leaves are green and life is beautiful. We rekindle the Balefire and dance the Maypole Dance. The May King and May Queen are chosen.

LITHA

The Summer solstice brings Litha. The Oak King is displaced by the Holly King. The year has turned, the days begin to shorten, we see the other side of time. The Waning Year will bring darkness, but also the harvest.

LUGHNASADH

Lughnasadh arrives when the Sun reaches fifteen degrees of Leo. We celebrate the wedding of the Lord of Light and the Goddess of Fertility. The first bounty of the harvest has come into our lives. We give thanks for all of the bounty coming into our lives, as we feast and play games of skill.

MABON

Mabon comes at the Autumnal Equinox. The death of the Corn King brings the seeds that will live on in the coming spring. We accept endings as new beginnings. We let go of old pains and fears. Mabon is the time to remember our roots.
